Lindsey Fillingham (nee James) graduated from the University of Cape Town in 2009 and went on to study in Stockholm (KMH), Manchester (RNCM), and privately with Kate Hill (RAM). Lindsey has played with the likes of the Cape Philharmonic, the Hallé and Orchestra of the Swan in venues including the Royal Albert and Bridgewater Hall. She was a soloist with the Johannesburg Philharmonic in 2012, and recently broadcast for BBC Radio 4’s Sunday Worship. Her production, Soundscapes of South Africa, was endorsed by the South African High Commission and performed at St. Martin-in-the-Fields in 2014. Lindsey is passionate about improvising and bringing music to diverse communities, and is equally at home on the concert platform, performing in care homes, singing in school workshops or teaching.
Lindsey is currently a doctoral student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, carrying out practice-based research into group improvisation in classical music. She delivers flute courses at City Lit institute, as well as several schools and music services. She is member of soundSPARK wind quartet and Ashdown Duo, and regularly performs in South Africa and the UK.
